What the free search checks
We send the exact Australian business name and matching .com.au, .au, .com and .net.au domains to specialist data services. We show when each check was completed.
What each result means
- Available: the provider gave us a clear available result.
- Review required: the answer was unclear, conditional or needs consent, proof of eligibility or another manual step.
- Unavailable: the provider said the name or domain was unavailable through its service.
The business name and matching .com.au are the key checks. Other available domains cannot turn an unavailable or unresolved business name into a good result.
How current are the results?
Availability can change quickly, so every result shows its check time. If you repeat the same search soon afterwards, we may show the recent result again to reduce provider costs. A result never reserves anything.
How a name gets into a paid report
Every name idea must have a clear available business-name result and an available matching .com.au. We prefer the matching .au to be available too. The .com and .net.au results give you extra information. We do not show name ideas that fail the required checks.
What the free search does not cover
The free search does not check every trade mark, similar business, overseas use, industry licence, reputation issue or social username. Registering a business name does not give you trade mark protection. Run separate checks and get professional advice if choosing the wrong name could cause a serious loss.
